What a custom
website
really costs
The numbers out loud, instead of asking you to write in to find them out:
what a custom website costs in Mexico, what moves the price and what is not
included.
The investment
Quoted by scene
A scene is one idea you travel through from beginning to
end. This studio's own journey is two of them: the trip through space and the
descent into the sea. The first scene is the one that pays for building the
world —art direction, code, rhythm— and that is why it sets the
price.
The ones that come after don't build that world again: they are
derived from the first and they extend it. That is why they cost less,
and why I don't publish a fixed figure for them: each one is priced by what
that scene actually asks for.
Main scene
From $2,500 USD
One idea. One journey. One goal.
An experience made of a single narrative scene, ideal for campaigns,
launches, events or pitches where one story can say it all.
Includes
- Custom design
- Full development
- Mobile optimization
- Domain and hosting*
- Full deployment
Estimated time: 2 to 3 weeks.
* The included domain covers common extensions such
as .com, .mx or .com.mx. Other extensions have a
different cost and are quoted separately.
Additional scenes
Lower cost per scene
The world is already built.
Once the main scene exists —its art direction, its code, its
rhythm— the ones that follow are derived from it. The world isn't
built again: it grows. That is why they cost less than the first.
Includes
- A new scene inside the same experience
- The same visual language and the same performance
- Deployment included
Each one is priced by its complexity.

The comparison
What the market charges
It's worth comparing. I work from Mexico, so these are the ranges other
Mexican studios and agencies publish — the market I price against:
| Who builds it | Published range |
| Yourself, with a template | $1,000 – $5,000 MXN |
| Freelancer | $5,000 – $25,000 MXN |
| Small-business site, several sections | $14,000 – $45,000 MXN |
| Established agency | $15,900 – $49,900 MXN |
| Full online store | $35,000 – $80,000 MXN |
| Cauce, custom-built | From $2,500 USD per main scene |
Figures in Mexican pesos, taken from pricing guides published
by studios and agencies in Mexico during 2026. They are market references, not
an official rate: everyone measures what they deliver differently. Cauce's own
row is in US dollars because that is how international projects are quoted.
I sit at the top of that range, and I'd rather say so than hide it. The
reason is simple: nothing here is a template being filled in.
Every scene is drawn and coded from scratch, and that is weeks of work a
template doesn't carry. If what you need is basic presence —who you are,
what you sell, how to reach you— a well-built template will serve you and
costs far less. I'll tell you that even if it costs me the project.
The scope
What moves the price
When I quote, this is what I look at:
- How many scenes. One idea travelled end to end is not the same as a journey of six.
- How much motion. Frame-by-frame animation or real 3D cost more than a transition.
- Whether the content exists. With copy and photos ready, everything moves; if they have to be produced, that adds up.
- What it has to connect to. Bookings, payments, a catalog or inventory change the work entirely.
- By when. A tight date is possible, but it is priced in.
What you're buying
What an immersive site is
A normal site is read. An immersive site is travelled through:
as you scroll, the scene changes with you, and the site stops feeling like a
catalog and starts feeling like a place. Its purpose isn't decoration — it
is to hold whoever arrives long enough to discover what you're offering.
I explain it slowly, with examples and a side-by-side against a traditional
page, in what immersive web design is
→
When it's worth it
When the first impression decides the sale: a product launch, a seasonal
campaign, a real-estate pre-sale, a collection catalog, a hotel or restaurant
tour, an investor pitch, conferences and events, or the story of a brand that
wants to be told in full.
When it isn't
If you need to publish three articles a week, if your site is mostly a
catalog of hundreds of products that change on their own, or if you're still
validating an idea and don't yet know what you're selling. In those cases
another tool suits you better, and I'm glad to tell you which one.
The process
How I work
01 · Conversation
We define what you need. Scope and price are agreed in writing
before we start, with a 50% deposit to hold the date and 50% on
delivery. No surprises halfway through.
02 · Design and code
You see real progress at every stage, not a final file on the last day.
Adjustments happen there, within the three included rounds — so the
project doesn't turn into an endless list of small changes.
03 · Launch
Your site goes live and running on your own domain, in your name. If you
want me to keep looking after it, ongoing care takes over; if not, it's yours
and you don't depend on me.
After delivery
Once your site is live
How you ask for a change
On WhatsApp or by email, with everything you want changed in a single
message. Before touching anything I tell you in writing whether it is covered
by your plan or what it costs: no change is charged unless you have
approved it.
What it costs
- Nothing for the first 30 days if it is a functional error: that is the delivery warranty. It does not cover content changes.
- With ongoing care (from $150 USD a month), the content changes we agree on in your plan are included.
- Without ongoing care, each change is quoted separately, in writing, before it is done.
What ongoing care includes
Depending on the size of the project: domain and hosting renewal, automatic
backups, security updates, uptime monitoring, content changes and performance
tuning. It is paid month by month, with no automatic charges to your card and
no minimum term; you can cancel whenever you want by letting me know in
writing.
What you get to run it or take it elsewhere
- The domain and hosting in your name, with their logins. They are included for the first year; after that, renewal is covered by ongoing care or paid by you directly.
- The site and its content are yours once 100% is paid.
- A complete copy of the files —code, images and text—. They are standard files (HTML, CSS and JavaScript), with no visual builder or plugins in between: they can be hosted on another server and another developer can work on them.
The details are in the terms and conditions.
The studio
Who does the work
Johonatan Cordero, web designer. Cauce is a one-person studio: you talk directly to the person
who designs it and writes the code, with no account executive and no
chain of emails. That has an upside and a limit, and both are honest —
nobody is going to half-understand you, and I take on a small number of
projects at a time.
I work from Mexico, in Spanish and in English. Besides websites I do brand
identity, illustration and applied graphics, so if your project needs both you
don't have to coordinate two vendors.
Projects built so far. They can be travelled in full, on a phone or on
a computer, and each one says where it stands:
When a project goes live on the client's domain, its label
changes to “Live” and the link goes to the official site.
How each one was built: Cedros ·
Pacífico Azul.
Questions
Frequently asked
How long does it take?
The main scene, 2 to 3 weeks, live and running. If the experience has
several scenes, each one added takes less than the first, because the world
is already built. The clock starts once the deposit and the base content
are in.
Why do additional scenes cost less?
Because the expensive work is already done. The first scene pays for the
art direction, the code and the rhythm of the journey; the ones that follow
reuse all of it and only build what is theirs. It's not a haggling discount:
there is literally less to build.
Will the site show up on Google?
It ships with the technical side solved: titles and descriptions,
structured data, a sitemap, light loading and text search engines can read.
That's the foundation, not a guaranteed position. Coming up first for your
own brand name is quick; fighting for contested terms is ongoing work: that is the
search and AI visibility service, hired separately. Be wary of anyone who promises you the top spot.
Can I edit the site myself afterwards?
Content changes go through ongoing care. These sites are written by hand
so they load fast, which means they don't come with a WordPress-style admin
panel: that's the trade-off for looking and running the way they do. If what
you need is to edit every day, another tool suits you better and I'll say so
on the first call.
Does it work well on phones?
Yes, and that's where most of the work goes. Every scene is tested on a
small screen, portrait and landscape, with lighter images served to
mobile.
Do you work with clients outside Mexico?
Yes. The work is remote from start to finish, with progress shared over
video call and WhatsApp. I have clients I've never met in person.
What if I don't like the design?
That's why you see progress from the first week and not a final file on
the last day: disagreements show up while they're still cheap to fix. The
three rounds of adjustments are there for exactly that.
How much does a custom website cost?
It depends on who builds it and how much of it is designed from scratch. With a template and your own time, a few hundred dollars. With a freelancer, somewhere between $500 and $2,000 USD. With a studio or an agency, a few thousand. At Cauce the work is quoted by scene: the main scene starts at $2,500 USD and additional scenes cost less, because they are derived from it. Everything is designed and coded to measure, with no templates.
Why does Cauce cost more than a template site?
Because it is not the same thing. A template gets filled in; here every scene is drawn and coded for your brand, with animation and 3D if the project calls for it. If what you need is basic presence — who you are, what you sell, how to reach you — a well-built template will serve you and costs far less. This is worth paying for only when the first impression decides the sale.
What does the price include?
Custom design, full development, animation and 3D where it applies, mobile optimization, a domain in your name on common extensions and hosting for the first year, three rounds of adjustments and the deployment. There are no loose vendors or separate accounts, and no third-party plugins or licenses to renew.
How is it paid?
50% deposit to hold the date and 50% on delivery. Scope and price are agreed in writing before we start.
Who does the work?
Johonatan Cordero, designer and developer. Cauce is a one-person studio: there is no account executive and no chain of emails. You talk to the person who designs it and writes the code.
